Episode 1: AMTRAK Auto train in Lorto, Virgina

This Months Report is Written by Mike Karlik:

Lorton, Virginia is the northern terminus for Amtrak's famous Auto Train service (Virginia to Florida).  The station, which was newly constructed only a few years ago, lies adjacent to CSX's busy RF&P mainline.  The Auto Train is Amtrak's longest passenger train, with upwards of 20 passenger coaches, 21 auto carrying freight cars, and two P42 diesels.  The southbound Auto Train (to Sanford) is designated Train 53, while the northbound train (to Lorton) is Train 52.  Trains depart daily.
